Everywhere

Original Photo by Cecilia Marie Pulliam

I see and hear God everywhere in my life.

I hear him in the wind sighing through the pine boughs outside my window. His voice roars in the creek thundering through its rocky canyon beside the house.

I see him in the soft blush of first morning light and in the triumphant shout of a flaming sunset.

I hear him in a favorite song, in the sweet voices of friends.

He comforts me through scripture and the kindness of strangers.

He is in my sorrows and my joys, in my thoughts and in my heart.

I never want to experience a moment without Him.

Lord, keep me close to you, always. Amen.

A New Year's Prayer

Lord, lead me to toward a healthier lifestyle with diet and exercise.

Lord, lead me to write the books you inspire.

Lord, lead me in prayer for our world, our country, for all in desperate need of your help, and especially for those with whom I disagree.

Lord, lead me to acts of kindness toward all your creation without pausing to judge who is worthy and who is not.

Lord, lead me closer to you.

Amen.

What Does Love Look Like?

Photo by: Stuart Miles at DigitalPhotos.net
According to society, love is flowers, candy, kisses, rings, tulle, and the words, “I do.” That is one kind of love. However, there are many others: the love of parents, the love of children, the love of siblings, the love of friends, and the love of things.

In Luke 21:34 Jesus warns us not to become too engrossed in the things of this world as to become complacent to the things of God.

Yet, it is so easy to get caught up in the here and now. It screams at us for attention through social pressures, media, and even friends and family.  With all of this activity, the here and now can still feel empty, devoid of meaning and we ask the age-old questions: “Why am I here?” “What is my purpose in this life?” “Is what I am doing important?”
